Hi, I'm Marissa (she/her)

I'm a planetary space physicist, mother to 2 kids in the public schools, and a Brookline resident since 2014. I have been a Town Meeting Member since 2020 and a Library Trustee since 2023. I also represent Pierce School on Brookline's Safe Routes to School taskforce. Proud to be endorsed by Progressive Brookline (Library Trustee & TMM) and Brookline for Everyone (Town Meeting).

I love our libraries

Our libraries are an invaluable community resource that provide so much more than just books: we offer programs, printing, computer resources, a "library of things" including telescopes and button makers, games, DVDs, museum passes, a community gathering place, and public restrooms. The role of a Library Trustee includes setting policy, evaluating the work of the Library Director, supporting our amazing library staff, and advocating for robust library funding and competitive staff compensation. I'm running for re-election as a Trustee of the Public Library to continue that work of helping our libraries and staff serve our community.

Intellectual Freedom

I support our libraries' intellectual freedom and will not support policies that enact book bans.

Everyone belongs at the library

Everyone should feel welcome at the library. I will work to ensure our materials and programs reflect the rich diversity of our community in terms of the languages, cultures, identities, ages, and interests. Our library offerings should "meet people where they are", and that includes making library resources available to individuals who can't physically make it into a library branch. I will apply a social justices lens in approving policies and supporting new initiatives.

Looking to the future

We recently hired a new Library Director and will soon begin developing a new strategic plan, which will set the library's priorities for the next few years. I'm looking forward to gathering community feedback on what our strategic plan should include while also using what I've learned in my first 3-year term as a trustee to develop realistic goals with measurable outcomes.

My goals as a Town Meeting Member include:

ensuring that Brookline is a safe, affordable, and welcoming place for people of all backgrounds
increasing transparency in our local government
supporting Brookline schools and educators so that our children receive an excellent public education
improving our pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure and supporting sustainable transportation methods
